How People See You

January 27th, 2005 by davidtenhave

Listening to: Everyone (Moving On) - Evermore

One of the little habits I have developed since I started blogging has been to look
at the search terms people have used to get to my site. Some times they are the very
oddest of juxtapositions:

cad
cam blink 182

I mean! What were you looking for where this is a valid set of criteria (no seriously…
email me if you read this).

Google: 8th result.

Sometimes I actually blush quite heavily:

west
coast choppers porn
Yikes! I’m glad my mother doesn’t read this… It turns out I might be the purveyor
of kinky biker porn.
XtraMSN: 3rd (!!!!!????) result.

And sometimes I am just confused:

ogus
design table lamp

Surely there have to be other sites that rank higher???

Google: 1st result

It feels like someone has written down in a few words their description of you.
It’s completely artificial. But then, at the end of that day, it’s no more artificial
than someone’s surface level interpretation of you and your actions.

So I guess the only real observation is that my blog is a honey pot for
the weird and wonderful. If I’m honest, that’s actually a fair observation of the
way I see the world.

UPDATE: Ok so now someone is just taking the piss ;-) :

School Nite Partying Is Bad

January 26th, 2005 by davidtenhave

Listening to: Listen - Toad The Wet Sprocket

You know it and I know it… partying on a school night is a recipe for general badness
and a painful day at work :-|… But some times, just sometimes, the means has nothing
to do with the ends and you just do it.

One of the greatest things about this Christmas has been having some really close
friends come back from the UK. Monday night was the highlight of this little nostalgia-fest.
You never realise how much you’ve missed someone until they turn up and drink you
under the table…. perverted, but true.

Sometimes shared history is the most valuable thing that you own and because it is
shared it is even more precious. I, for a number of reasons, don’t have a lot of truly
affective shared history (probably the result of a really WASPy upbringing) but what
I do have, perhaps because of it’s rarity, has something of an impact. It’s something
that doesn’t bother me until someone turns up and hits the rewind button and then
all hell breaks loose. So sometimes the hang over is a respite … something else
to focus on.

What’s a blog if not a public forum for self indulgence ;-)

Nothing Beats a Good Suit

January 23rd, 2005 by davidtenhave

Listening to: Obvious> - Blink-182

Most of my work life has been spent in a suit. While suits aren’t my first choice
of attire I do love a good one. Nothing can beat the feeling of world-astride-captalist
you get from wearing a really good suit. My self image transforms when I wear a good
suit. It is true, a good cut flatters
both your body and your mind
. You know it’s an illusion but it works so well.
I have started following English Cut… the
blog of a Savile Row tailor… while it’s going to be some time before I can afford
a NZD4,000 suit… it’s still a real pleasure getting insight into the way these things
work.

Unwrapping a Mac Mini

Listening to: All Of This> - Blink-182

One of my “kinks” is how much I enjoy taking Apple products out of their packaging.
I maintain it is one of the most amazing experiences. This posting allowed
me to live the experience of taking a Mac Mini out of the box.

Wow! Now There Is An Admission!

Listening to: Floating - Strawpeople

Found on BoingBoing:

Ken Kutaragi, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., said he and other
Sony employees have been frustrated for years with management’s reluctance to introduce
products like Apple Computer Inc.’s iPod, mainly because the Tokyo company had music
and movie units that were worried about content rights…

High-ranking Sony officials have rarely publicly said their proprietary views
were a mistake. Kutaragi, who has long been viewed as a candidate to lead Sony, was
unusually direct in acknowledging Sony had made an error and blaming proprietary concerns
from its entertainment division.
