Two Different Air Launch Projects Test at Mojave

July 27th, 2005 by davidtenhave

Listening to: We Who Live In Darkness - Dallas Tamaira

Alan Radecki posts a series
of pictures
of recents tests by Air Launch and t/Space.

As he points out, Mojave is becoming the centre of private space
industry… I wonder if it was like this as the orchards were ripped up to make way
for Silicon Valley, and in seeing that parallel… maybe I should’ve gotten an
engineering degree.

I have posted on the t/Space tests before.

Tribal Wireless Website Now Up

Of note to any ex-GZ’er… the Tribal Wireless website
is up. AK and AJ aren’t saying much, but they’re now saying something :-)

Creative HQ

Listening to: Your Missus is a Nutter - Goldie Lookin’ Chain

I went to a meeting at the Creative
HQ
last night… and I have to say that I was very impressed. Being the ex-residence
of Designworks is
has that ambience of a design studio but because of the type of residents it
has an added excitement. If first impressions are anything to go by (and in this industry
that is still up for debate) then it appears to be a winner. For me just wandering
through the space shared by some pretty exciting companies was
a buzz.

Yahoo Buys Konfabulator

July 25th, 2005 by davidtenhave

Listening to: Office air conditioning

Yahoo lobs another throw in the on going
battle for primacy in a Web 2.0 world (increasing the count of Web 2.0 platforms by
1…):

Yup, the big announcement we’ve been sneaking around and working up to is that
we’ve been acquired by Yahoo!. We’re really excited about this, and here’s the big
reason why… they have free espresso on campus! That’s right, no more $80 a week
Starbucks bills!

Another reason we’re excited about it, is the very cool big picture. See, when we
first thought of Konfabulator, one of the key pieces was accessing internet content.
Well guess what Yahoo has boat-loads of? Yup. And what’s really great is that they’re
starting to open it up to everyone in a format that’s useable outside the traditional
browser, as XML feeds. Guess how they’re going to provide real-world examples of how
to use this stuff. Yup… Konfabulator. So really, depending on how you look at it,
we’re taking over Yahoo! We’re going to make it so the best way to access their data
is via slick little Widgets.

NINJAM

Listening to: In Your Honor - Foo Fighters

Seeeeeeeeeriously cool! From the creator of Winamp comes NINJAM:

NINJAM is a program to allow people to make real music together via the Internet.
Every participant can hear every other participant. Each user can also tweak their
personal mix to his or her liking. NINJAM is cross-platform, with clients available
for Mac OS X and Windows.

Now that’s seriously cool collaboration. (src: Om

Did Silicon Valley Build Its Own 747?

July 25th, 2005 by davidtenhave

Listening to: The Modern Love - Bloc party

Om Malik has a
great essay on innovation
where he compares the PC and IP networks to the 747:

Silicon Valley has often been (incorrectly) compared with the epicenter of another
boom, Detroit. The more apt comparison should be with Boeing’s super successful
aircraft,
the 747.
