Excellent! More
sh!t hot science out of NZ:
It is nearly 25,000 light years away, with a ground temperature of minus 220deg,
but it looks more like Earth than any other planet found so far.
>Ground-breaking work by a husband-and-wife team at the University of Canterbury’s
astronomy department has helped discover a planet and made “a major leap forward”
in the possibility of finding a habitable “second Earth”.
Astronomers Dr Karen Pollard and Dr Michael Albrow are part of an international
team whose research is today being published by leading scientific journal Nature.

the find.

The PMN Mobile User Experience conference has an interesting
article about toy design at Fisher Price:
Through testing like this, Fisher-Price discovered that a child’s natural tendency
is to grab a camera with two hands, covering up the flash. So they developed their
Kid-Tough camera with two fat grips on either side to protect the flash. The camera
also has two-eye viewing, making it is easier for children to look through the viewfinder.

From Forbes:
NEW YORK - In an unprecedented move, Stanford University
is collaborating with Apple Computer to allow public access a wide range of
lectures, speeches, debates and other university content through iTunes. No need to
pay the $31,200 tuition. No need to live on campus. No need even to be a student.
The nearly 500 tracks that constitute “Stanford on iTunes” are available to anyone
willing to spend the few minutes it takes to download them from the Internet.

UPDATE: But I’d loved to know how to get to the Stanford content! (I have issues with
the iTunes Store… the interface is not the best).
UPDATE 2: Check out http://edcorner.stanford.edu/ (thanks Steven)…
even if these aren’t ones that are referred to above… they are a solid collection
of pod Casts.

Listening to: A concrete drill three floors down
Over the past 48 hours I have come across a couple of artists that have impressed
me:
COOP is also continuing his series of photoblogging a painting… day
1 and day
2 (may not be work safe).

So so so cool:
After brainstorming a bit with my best friend B, we decided to create a remotely
controlled pan and tilt base for my miniature wireless color camera. I pondered for
a few minutes and decided to use 3M poster tabs for a secure but temporary way to
adhere it all together and in all of 5 minutes had a working pan and tilt system feeding
video wirelessly to my HMD. Pretty neat to be able to put it down somewhere and just
look around like you were there.
Then came the inevitable escalation. “We need to make it move” was what B said.
My problem then was simple. Not being into RC cars, I didn’t have one. He said lets
use mine. Uh oh…

Does anyone know if it’s possible to read the mail in Mail.app in the terminal in
MacOS X? I know I could use my mac.com account when away from my machine… but i’d
prefer to ssh in and read/reply via a terminal.
UPDATE: As Kirk suggested… I think the solution is installing an IMAP server.
