Library Elf - Using RSS in the Real World
Listening to: The Wilderness - V-Love
I found this over at the
wellingtonista and I think it’s wonderful. Library
Elf is an RSS service that notifies you when your library books are over due.
The reason I love it is that it is that it exemplifies all that is great about simple
protocols… they can be used by a much larger group of people. Imagine offering that
sort of thing as SOAP [cue Adam Savage imitating Jamie Hyneman] “…yes well, we offer
this easy to consume, industry standard interface that can be easily integrated…”
it’d fail (or at least would need to be abstracted away before it was at all useful
to more than a handful of people (who in this case have probably stopped using libraries
anyways)).
