Kathy Sierra (Creating Passionate Users)

Listening to: So Here We Are - Bloc Party

Yesterday I was lucky enough to sit in on a presentation by Kathy
Sierra
. She is one of the quartet behind the blog Creating
Passionate Users
.

While psychology has played an important role in user centered design… this was
the first time I really ‘got’ some of the key concepts - particularly the concept
of ‘Flow’… or being in the zone and how it is important for software designers to
facilitate that. Really fascinating. The people off to Webstock are
in for a real treat.

I’d like to thank Zef and the rest of the
UPANZ crew who organized and presented yesterday. I learnt a huge amount. Oh and thanks
to Phil for letting me win the squeaky toy
:-)

I also got to meet someone who subscribes to my blog (who I didn’t know personally)…
always an oddly humbling event. So thanks to Leonie also.

UPDATE: For more info check out Phil’s post on
the presentation. Phil actually explains the key issues that were discussed and then
maps them to the Cooper framework (which I am more familiar with).
