Listening to: Only Us - Peter Gabriel
While NASA and the European Space Agency focus on Mars rovers and future missions to search for life on the Red Planet, a determined core of scientists is lobbying for equal attention to a place they feel is just as likely to harbor life - Jupiter’s icy moon Europa.

Listening to: The Prayer - Bloc Party
Popular Mechanics has a feature on Burt Rutan and his work on SpaceShipTwo:
Details on SpaceShipTwo […] are secret, but the goal is not — to create a craft that flies for decades. “We hope we’re building the DC 3 or Tri-Motor,” Rutan says, “not the barnstorming airplane.”

Chemistry and origami… sounds like a perfect mix
Turns out that it might be:
Physicists in Israel have invented a neat method of making elaborate 3D structures from flat 2D discs. The trick is to pre-treat a gel disc half the size of a beer coaster with a monomer solution “blueprint” that selectively shrinks when heated. The technique, which cleverly demonstrates the link between 2D and 3D geometry, could be used by engineers to create self-assembling prototypes (Science 315 1116).

Listening to: HBR IdeaCast 31: What Is Wikinomics? - Harvard Business School Publishing
Well worth a listen… A great description of business strategy based on the way a lot of us already operate.
This week, IdeaCast producer Steve Singer talks with Don Tapscott, co-author, with Anthony D. Williams, of Wikinomics: How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything. In its latest incarnation, Tapscott says, the World Wide Web has become a communal experience—collaborators from anywhere and any walk of life now have the ability to solve problems and produce results through the use of collective wisdom. Although some business leaders may find the prospect of this kind of openness rather frightening, Tapscott believes that leveraging the new wave of community is the way of the future.

Listening to: The Middle - Jimmy Eat World
According to Arstechnica Nasa and Virgin Galactic are looking to team up on aspects of space flight…
The areas of interest to the two entities range from from hypersonic vehicles to space suits for astronauts. “This understanding with Virgin Galactic affords NASA an opportunity to work with an emerging company in the commercial human space transportation industry to support the agency’s exploration, science and aeronautics mission goals,” said S. Pete Worden, director of the NASA Ames Research Center
Great to see Burt getting more attention… and hopefully make an even greater impact.

Listening to: Mercy On The Boy - Icehouse
iTunes has a (deservedly) bad reputation for taking total control of your music and videos, including where they live on your computer. It wasn’t always easy to move your library in past versions of the software, but happily iTunes 7 makes relocating an existing media library pretty painless - that is, with a little know-how.
