Listening to: Tales Of A Scorched Earth - Smashing Pumpkins
To the surprise of The Missus I displayed a good degree of apathy towards the MacBookAir. I am someone who now lives out of a laptop… and small is beautiful, but not the be all and end all. The MacBook sits so snuggly at the price/capability/weight sweet spot that moving is a thing I really need to think about. Conceptually I love the MBA, but practically it doesn’t do it for me. I think the 2nd and 3rd revs of the product will be the ones to watch. Gizmodo do an easily digestible comparison of the MBA and the other players.
While it’s technically the second time I have seen a Reprap in the flesh (I saw one in Boston last year) today was the first time I saw one running. A seriously cool piece of technology.
Ever since kicking Ponoko off I have started to discover a whole range of great rapid manufacturing projects here in NZ. Wellington, especially, is a hot bed for this work. I had a really amazing experience today … I was able to walk down to the VUW Design School to check out the 3D printers created by the students … I can’t tell you how exciting it is to see this sort of thing literally down the street from my home!
