I am currently the CNN coverage of the elections (which is very good) and while it’s early on it does look like that it’s going to a bit bluer in Washington.
UPDATE: Wow! One, may be two, houses. I don’t believe I have heard the phrase ‘bi-partisan’ uttered so much in years.
One of the most powerful videos I have seen for a long while. It is a stunning argument for understanding our own weaknesses and the fallacy of absolute knowledge. Standing in the wintry fields of Auschwitz Bronowski surrounds himself the horrors that are wrought by ideology.

This is from an editorial in the latest issue of Army Times and being published by the Military Times Group it also appeared in Army Times, Navy Times, Air Force Times and Marine Corps Times.
Rumsfeld has assured us that things are well in hand.
Now, the president says he’ll stick with Rumsfeld for the balance of his term in the White House.
This is a mistake. It is one thing for the majority of Americans to think Rumsfeld has failed. But when the nation’s current military leaders start to break publicly with their defense secretary, then it is clear that he is losing control of the institution he ostensibly leads.

Salon is currently running an article on the dissatisfaction in military over how the war in Iraq is being run. The most important point is:
It’s not that the current and former military leaders are suddenly eager to see liberal House Democratic leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi take more power in Congress if the Democrats win control. Instead, the embrace of the Democrats, they say, is purely pragmatic. They hope the Democrats will succeed where Republicans failed and conduct critical oversight to help the Bush administration fix its stalled and failing strategy for Iraq. “Over five years our Congress has abrogated [its] oversight responsibilities,” Batiste said. “They have not held serious hearings about this war.”
HARK — CAN YOU hear it? Borne on the wind, can you hear the sounds of construction — of hammers hammering and woodsaws sawing? And do you detect a note of panic? I do. The good ship Neocon is going down. She has struck the Iraqi rocks, the engine room is awash, and on the deck in anxious pursuit of something to float them away is a curious assembly.
Salon has started reporting (like a lot outlets) about the contents of the Baker report on Iraq… and how Bush is likely to take the contents:
In short, Baker’s report will be a heaping plate of crow. The big question is: Will Bush be able to bring himself to eat it — especially since it’s being served up by an emissary of his father?
